I wear a bucket hat on long summer jobs because a cap only covers the front. When you stand in an open field for a mapping run or wait for the light on a coastal shoot, the sun hits your neck and ears as well as your face. This hat has a wide brim all the way round, so you get 360-degree sun protection.
It is made from certified 100% organic cotton twill. The fabric is breathable and lightweight, so it stays comfortable through long aerial photography and surveying sessions. The front has an embroidered “Drone Pilot” design with a drone graphic, so other pilots on site know who they are talking to. If you hike out to your launch spots, it goes in the bag with the rest of the kit from my aerial photography hike prep guide.
What you get
- 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton twill
- Breathable, lightweight fabric
- Embroidered Drone Pilot insignia with a drone graphic on the front crown
- Wide all-round brim for 360-degree sun protection
- Brim shades your eyes and your RC controller screen from glare
- Colours: Bio White, Dill, Slate Blue, Stone
Choosing a colour
Colour is the only option on this hat. There is no size selector. Pick Bio White, Dill, Slate Blue or Stone. If you want a cap or a winter style as well, the full drone pilot hats range is in one place.
Does the brim actually help with the controller screen?
Yes. It shades your eyes and cuts some of the glare on the screen, which helps when you read telemetry at midday. For other ways to deal with bright conditions, see my guide on how to see your drone controller screen in bright sunlight.
